Fire Avert, we have it!
Plug-in ready
Now you can help prevent a serious fire from starting in the kitchen when you install the Fire Avert. Fire Avert is a plug-in-ready safety shut off device that helps seniors live independently. Just pull out the stove and plug it ito the back of your stove. Give yourself peace of mind that a stove fire won't turn into a full fledged kitchen or house fire. Think about this - can you picture your elderly family member living independently accidentally leaving a kitchen towel on the stove near a burner, then turning the stove on to cook and leaving the room? If you can, then Fire Avert is for you if you have an electric stove.

Above photo is the result of a kitchen fire in Cincinnati, OH.
"The fire originated in the kitchen of the two-story single-family residence. It was determined to have started on the stovetop from a burner that was left on with grease in the cooking pot. There was heavy fire showing from the first floor rear of the structure."..."A firefighter was killed during the flashover event and two other fire fighters were injured. (March, 2003) The Cincinnati Enquirer

A personal note from the founder of Modern Senior Products
Donna Smith Menner

As a firefighter's daughter, I take fire very seriously. I am proud that we are now able to offer this life and property saving device. My dad was a firefighter with the city of Cincinnati for 33 years. I still remember him telling me about the St. Gregory Seminary fire of 1958 in Cincinnati, the large commissary-sized cans of canned foods were exploding in the kitchen where the firefighters and (he) was fighting the fire. I was told the fire started in the kitchen. That was a multi-alarm fire and burned the roof off that building, it was a very serious fire.

Kitchen Fire Statistics from National Fire Protection Association
  • Cooking is the #1 cause of home fires
  • Two thirds (66%) of home cooking fires started with the ignition of food or other cooking materials
  • Rangers or cooktops accounted for the majority (61%) of home cooking fire incidents

How does it work?
There is always smoke before fire. Smoke activates your smoke alarm and the smoke alarm activates the Fire Avert by cutting the power to your stove and oven BEFORE there is a flame. Continuously monitors day and night. An unattended stove is the #1 cause of fires in the home in the U.S.A. Approximately 500 people are killed and about 5,000 people injured each year due to kitchen fires. The average kitchen fire costs the homeowner approximately $6,000.00. Kitchen fires don't necessarily just stay in the kitchen, they can spread to the rest of the home as you have seen in the photo above about the fire in 2003 in Cincinnati, starting in the kitchen.

With advancing age can come absent-mindedness or dementia. Protect yourself or a loved one from fire. If a fire starts on the stove or oven the smoke alarm in your home should go off. When the smoke alarm goes off the Fire Avert automatically hears it and turns off the stove. It isn't just older folks that could use Fire Avert. Have a teenager in the house that gets immersed in their cell phone? They could also forget about the stove. Actually, anyone can get busy with something else and become distracted, or even leave the house with the stove still on.

Is FireAvert reusable?
Absolutely. If Fire Avert shuts off your stove because your smoke alarm went off, simply reset your circuit breaker in your electrical panel by flipping it off and back on again. It is easy, once you have installed Fire Avert, you will never again have to pull your stove out. Fire Avert is maintenance free and does not use batteries.

Do you own rental properties?
Fire Avert can be a smart investment to protect apartment buildings, rental condos, cabins and other properties you own with a kitchen or kitchenette with an electric stove. This is the cheapest fire insurance you can buy!

There is a 1-in-10 chance of an apartment fire in the next year for a 100 unit apartment building. It is not unusual for property damage to run up to $12,000, this doesn't include lost rent, damage to reputation, lost tenants or injury.

Assisted Living Facilities
Extra protection for assisted living apartments with an electric stove

Only works with electric stoves. There must also be a working smoke alarm in the area to activate the Fire Avert to smoke.
