D704 Big Button Amplified Cordless Phone

The D704 Big Button Amplified Cordless Phone is a next generation amplified cordless phone. This cordless phone has button size (0-9) dimensions of L 1/2" X W 1/2", larger than most cordless phones in big box stores. The keys are contoured with a soft-touch material for comfort. D704 big button cordless phone has a backlit keypad that is easy to read at night and also a visual ringer that allows you to easily find the phone in a dark bedroom, and the Caller ID* screen has large fonts and high contrast for easy readability.

DECT Technology Gives Voice Encryption Protection
This is a 1.9GHz DECT 6.0 phone. What does DECT mean for you? DECT 6.0 is a technology that provides voice encryption to protect you from eavesdropping. DECT 6.0 phones are also more energy efficient, and the battery life is up to 30% longer.

Expandable Up to 5 Handsets
This big button cordless phone is expandable up to 5 handsets. This allows you to have phones in multiple rooms for the ultimate convenience, and no running to grab the phone. There is an extra loud speakerphone in the handset, and voicemail indicator. The D704 comes with an AC adapter which means it has enough power for you to be able to use 2 or more amplified phones at once. This is a nice feature when more one person wants to be in on a conversation - perhaps talking to the children or grandchildren. Line powered phones with no adapter get their power from telephone lines, and you may not be able to use two handsets at once.

Superior Hearing Aid Compatibility
The D704 amplified cordless phone is hearing aid compatible. It goes beyond this rating to include TIA -1083 compliant which means this phone gives superior hearing aid compatibility. The big button cordless phone provides amplification of 40dB (decibels) for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Another benefit of the D704 big button cordless phone is that the volume control is on the front of the phone. Some cordless phones have the volume control on the side of phone, causing accidental pressing of the volume control when holding the phone. NOTE: This phone does NOT have Boost Override. The volume will have to be adjusted every time the phone is used according to the needs of the individual with hearing loss. COLOR: Off-White

VoiceMail Indicator
There is a visual voicemail indicator - a little envelope that appears in the screen. There is no voicemail indicator that lights up or flashes. This may not be suitable for someone with Macular Degeneration

What is Boost Override?
This is a feature that when turned on, allows the user to set the volume and tone to their specific hearing and the phone remembers that setting. EVERY time they pick up the phone it will be set to that volume. We only recommend Boost Override for households of one person, or if everyone in the household has a hearing impairment. If a person without hearing loss uses a phone with Boost Override the feature should be turned off, or it could damage their hearing.

For those who are frail had a stroke or have severe arthritis and have a difficult time holding a handset, this phone has the speakerphone for hands-free listening and also a headset jack to allow connection of a headset as an additional method of hands-free talking.

Our Recommendation
This phone has large keys and lit keypad and is one of the simpler to use cordless phones and is expandable. Not recommended for Alzheimer's patients. Although some folks in their mid to upper 80s and into their 90s are able to use cordless phones, there are a great many who can't. Be sure if purchasing a cordless phone for someone that is elderly that they don't have trouble understanding the new technologies. Navigating menus is particularly daunting for many elderly folks, as is scrolling, and selecting. An easy, simple to use corded phone is more independent living friendly. This cordless phone may not be suitable for many elderly people 85+ If you need an easy to use, simple phone please checkout our esy to use phone category. We do not recommend cordless phones for those elderly people in nursing homes as nursing home staff are not responsible for seeing that the cordless phone is put back in the cradle every night for charging.

Pretty Good - Needs Some Obvious Improvements May 14, 2013
Reviewer: Kimberley Edwards from Los Angeles Ca
We got Clarity for my mom who is 88, very sharp, but very hard of hearing.
The biggest complaint that she had immediately is that the ringer at max volume does not go loud enough, and the voice message playback is not nearly loud enough, and hard to understand.
Like other people have said, it would be nice if you could set the volume for calls and the Boost and have it stay there!
I also found the directions for set-up to be poorly written, difficult to get through - and I'm very computer savvy. There's no way my mom could have gotten through it by herself, and it took me longer than it should have due to the inadequate directions and rather cumbersome set-up.
On the plus side, the call quality - once she hit the volume and Boost button again - was very good, and she understood what I was saying without having to scream at her.

Mother-In-Law Thrilled February 20, 2013
Reviewer: Happy Customer from Scottsdale , AZ United States
My mother-in-law is 96 years old and is very active and mentally sharp. She can work a fax machine as well as her Kindle and Cell Phone. She does however have a vision problem and wanted a phone with large buttons and a phone she could easily see, in a color. She called us from her new phone to tell us she is THRILLED. The large buttons and white color are just what she needed.
A minor problem...getting the three auxillary phones synched. A "techie" in her highrise helped her! Appears that all three auxiliary phones initially needed to be near the main phone to  set up the entire system..
Voila... it solved the problem. The main phone is in one area and the other three in separate rooms. We, her family are delighted!

Clarity Big Button Amplified Cordless Phone April 24, 2012
Reviewer: Sandra M. from Harrisburg, PA United States
The phone would be easier to handle if it was larger.
Also, to get the maximum amplification, the volume has to be increased each and every call along with the boost button. It would be nice to be able to lock in the desired level of amplification.
